If you are new in the city, you are happy to receive any help: where to find what, who offers which help and what is actually going on here? The Welcome Kit for newcomers goes one step further. There are even a whole range of vouchers and discounts, so that the new citizens can get to know Görlitz better.
And so, in recent years, our action has become a real hit.
Three large partners
As in previous editions, Kommwohnen Service GmbH, Stadtwerke Görlitz (SWG) and Görlitzer Verkehrsbetriebe (GVB) are the three largest partners in this project. KommWohnen exempts newcomers from paying basic rent for two months and sponsors two overnight stays in Villa Ephraim for two people during the move. Stadtwerdke is giving a credit note on an average monthly consumption of electricity and presents a 20€ coupon to the Vierradenmühle restaurant. From the Verkehrsgesellschaft Görlitz, the new citizens of Görlitz will receive three months of free use of public bus and tram transport by buying an annual subscription.
In addition to these three initiators, a number of other companies, associations and institutions are participating in the Welcome Kit. The last total was 15. Eeach of us brought a welcome gift, which was supposed to say: “Glad you are here!”. The list of partners is not closed yet and may develop during the project, as it was shown in previous editions.
Anyone who moves to Görlitz and enters into a rental agreement with one of the four involved lessors is entitled to the benefits. In this way, he receives the Görlitz New Resident Card (Neugörlitzer Card), which entitles to the use of all “attractions” of the project.
Welcome kit is known beyond the borders
The offer is valid with the retroactive effect from 1st January 2020. This means that also those newly moved, who already signed lease agreements in January, can take advantage from our Welcome Kit. “I am particularly pleased that thanks to our Welcome Kit, our ‘welcome culture’ has become known far beyond the borders of Saxony and that the Welcome Kit has been already used by so many households” says KommWohnen Managing Director Arne Myckert.

The welcome package was launched in November 2012. Since then, 519 Neugörlitzer households have participated.
